Why do it
A copy with no recipient mention can be presented in another context. The watermark makes the destination visible. Sealing adds a certificate: if the file is changed, the proof no longer matches. The file is not kept.
Pas un simple filigrane : la copie est scellée, comme un cachet de cire. Tampon visible, plus un certificat signé, revérifiable.
Aucun fichier n'est conservé, uniquement une empreinte.

Before each time you send a copy to a third party.
The seal does not stop a file from being copied. It makes the destination visible and any alteration detectable. If the document is already compromised, report it as well.

Frequently asked questions
The questions most often asked by people sealing a document for the first time.
No. The watermark is the visible stamp. PMI Seal also seals the copy, like a wax stamp: it generates an electronically signed certificate, which attests recipient, purpose, date and file fingerprints. If the file is altered, the certificate breaks. A watermark alone, including a state-recommended one, does not provide that proof.
No. Sealing works without an account. With an account, your seals remain available in your dashboard; without one, the certificate you download at the end is your only record: keep it alongside the document.
No. The file is processed in memory and never stored. Only two SHA-256 fingerprints, of the original and of the sealed document, and the certificate signature are kept.
PDF, JPEG and PNG, up to 20 MB per document.
The watermark is visible, like the impression of a stamp. It can be removed from a copy. The certificate is the wax: an electronic signature computed over the seal's facts, document fingerprints, document type, recipient, purpose and date. Altering any of them makes the certificate invalid.
No, not on its own. It makes the copy unusable as-is in another context, since it carries the recipient's name and the date, and it makes the source of a leak identifiable. It replaces neither the recipient organization's vigilance nor declaring the document if it is compromised.
If the seal was created from an account, it remains available in your dashboard. If it was created without an account, the certificate cannot be recovered: PMI does not keep the document and cannot regenerate it. Sealing the document again produces a new certificate, dated today.
